According  to an article by Cnet, Microsoft is planning to end mainstream support for windows 7 and some of its popular products  come January 2015.
End of support means no more updates, fixes, and patches, free or paid for your windows 7 Os(it seems microsoft is getting tired of windows 7).
Note: EXTENDED SUPPORT lasts till Jan 2020.Which means you can only get security updates(nothing more) till 2020.
